I Taste the Future

Eglė Budvytytė

Through her practice of choreography, Eglė Budvytytė investigates how our movements in public space often reveal mechanisms of social control. Liquid Power Has No Shame (2017) consists of a live performance that will be filmed and then transformed into a video installation in Trevarefabrikken. Three performers will become a recurring social sculpture. Exploring the future as a hybrid and layered phenomenon, Budvytytė’s choreography grapples with the presence of these performers against the scenic surroundings of the archipelago, refusing to surrender to the landscape’s romantic pull. Instead these unexpected bodies enact gestures contradictory to what can be expected in the town’s streets. In turn, the performance proposes a reality in which binaries have collapsed, queering the body and contrasting its erotic presence against Lofoten’s natural backdrop.
